The beginning of school is just around the corner and, as in year’s past, COALA is having their annual fundraiser to assist Positive Tomorrows in meeting the needs of students and their families.
For those who may not know, Positive Tomorrows is a school for homeless children in OKC. Twice a year, COALA holds fundraisers and supplies drives to assist the school in meeting the needs of the students and their families. Please see the Needs List posted in the comments below and consider donating to this wonderful organization! I am told that, right now, they are in desperate need of back to school clothing items and cleaning supplies like Clorox wipes. Of course, monetary donations are always gladly accepted as well.
For some kids who attend Positive Tomorrows, their lunch and snack on a Friday afternoon may be the last meal they will have until the following Monday. Because these children come from families who are homeless, they are constantly moving from place to place, with no stability. Positive Tomorrows strives to provide these children with that stability as well as education, transportation to and from school, and free nutritious meals. Because their families cannot afford school supplies, clothing, and shoes, Positive Tomorrows provides these children with the basic necessities to relieve the children and their families from the anxiety and worry of not having things like sneakers for gym, or a pair of shoes that fit, or even clothes that fit. At the beginning of each school year, with the help of your donations, each child is provided with their very own backpack with school supplies that they keep in a cubby with their name! This may not seem like a lot to our children, but for these kids, it’s one of the few things they can call their own! We will be happy to collect your donations to deliver them at the COALA meeting on August 11 to a representative from Positive Tomorrows who will be in attendance to give us an update on the new things happening at their school.
