Happy Friday COALA Members:
Fall is now upon us and with it comes our second issue of COALA Corner! Fall has a variety of symbolic meanings, i.e., change, preservation, protection, comfort, and balance. It is the perfect time for self-reflection, awareness, and mindfulness.
The launch of our revamped website and updated logo was a welcomed change. The redesigned site contains many exciting features and functions. We invite you to contribute your thoughts and comments regarding the website through the Contact Us page. Even if you do not have access to or follow us on COALA’s various social media sites, you can take comfort that you will still be “in the know” on all things COALA by accessing the website. We also encourage you to submit photos or any information you may have relating to the history of COALA or your own personal COALA experiences. We continue to be mindful of our obligation to protect and preserve the work of those who previously served our organization.
At our recent monthly luncheons, we enjoyed not only a balance of information regarding current topics (opioid epidemic and immigration law) and technology insight (digital presentation and eDiscovery advances and best practices), but also the opportunity to recognize COALA scholarship recipients, Paralegal and Attorney of the Year awardees as well as COALA’s charitable endeavors through Positive Tomorrows. Make sure you check out all the awesome volunteer opportunities spotlighted in not only COALA Corner, but also on the website under the News & Events/COALA in the Community tab.
The first full week of November will be a busy time. COALA’s Fall Seminar is scheduled for November 8, 2018, and it is also Election Season! Not only for the state of Oklahoma, but for COALA. November is our annual business meeting and all active members will be asked to cast their vote at the meeting.
If you are unable to serve as an officer or on a committee, but would still like to help out in some way, please contact a COALA Board Member and join our Volunteer List. We are actively planning and preparing for the Christmas Luncheon and any and all assistance (i.e. obtaining gifts for the raffle and setting up, etc.) will be much appreciated.
In the coming months, we will strive to continue to serve your professional needs and meet the goals outlined in COALA’s Mission Statement, but we need your help. Please be on the lookout for a multiple choice survey geared to obtain background and utilization information to assist us in furthering COALA’s Mission.
A personal thank you to Charlotte Blacklee and Kerry Blackburn for providing content for inclusion in this issue of COALA Corner.
COALA Corner is and will continue to be a collaborative effort of everything that is going on in COALA.
We look forward to hearing any feedback (good or bad). Do you have content ideas? Wish to write a feature article for COALA Corner? Please share your thoughts about and ideas for COALA Corner with myself or any member of the COALA Board.
